According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s 2016 Breastfeeding Report Card, more than 80 percent of women in the United States breastfeed their babies. Although the decision to breastfeed is a personal one and a mother should not be made to feel guilty if she is unable or chooses not to breastfeed, some mothers still face many barriers such as stigmatization or a general lack of knowledge on the subject.
In honor of World Breastfeeding Week, we sat down with Cynthia Garrison, a lactation consultant at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital, to learn more about breastfeeding in general.
