UPMC Hamot today celebrated the grand opening of its new Suzanne and William Conner Lobby and UPMC Medical Staff and Hamot Aid Society Healing Garden.
The year-long transformation of the main entry to the hospital includes new and renovated lobby space, a patient discharge area, a centralized gift shop, a café, and a seating area with a warming fireplace. The space provides unprecedented ease of access, welcoming décor and a streamlined registration area.
As former Hamot Board chair Des McDonald noted in his remarks, the lobby is “a true reflection of the world-class health care provided at UPMC Hamot.”
The main entry includes a new outdoor healing garden with trees and perennial plantings, pathways and seating. Nearly 400 bricks purchased by UPMC Hamot staff and members of the community line the pathways. Many in attendance at today’s ribbon cutting ceremony who purchased pavers took advantage of the warm sunshine to walk through the new healing garden.
The $5 million project was made possible by the generosity of Suzanne and William Conner, UPMC Hamot Aid Society, UPMC Hamot medical staff, Hamot Health Foundation and other community members.
