By: Staff Report

In our first episode of NOW, we hear about what most excites the architectural firms awarded the projects for UPMC’s three new specialty hospitals; find out about how hackers spent 24 hours solving the biggest trouble spots in pediatric care; see what the future has in store at UPMC Susquehanna; and pay tribute to one of the most selfless individuals you will ever meet.

Albert Lexie passed away on Oct. 16. The Monessen native, who shined shoes at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh for more than three decades, committed his life to raising money for the Free Care Fund at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation. Lexie donated all the tips he earned from his one-man shoeshine business to help ensure no children from the region go without the care they need. Since he started in 1982, Lexie raised more than $202,000 for the Free Care Fund.

UPMC corporate communications is launching NOW as a high energy, bi-weekly news magazine show highlighting our best and most buzzworthy UPMC stories.
