Mark Tamburri has been appointed UPMC’s chief legal officer. He will succeed Tom McGough who will be retiring at the end of the year.
Mark’s 12-year career at UPMC includes serving as associate chief legal officer and senior vice president of litigation and risk management. With responsibility for most litigation-related matters at UPMC, Mark also oversaw risk management and UPMC’s Disabilities Resources Center while counseling UPMC senior leadership on a wide variety of strategic initiatives.

A native of western Pennsylvania, Mark graduated with honors from Carnegie Mellon University and earned his Juris Doctorate (cum laude) from Harvard Law School. After graduation, he returned to Pittsburgh to begin his legal career at Jones Day and later became a partner at Reed Smith prior to joining UPMC in 2011. Mark serves on the board of Western Pennsylvania Montessori School and is part of the 2024 executive leadership team of the American Heart Association, Heart of Pittsburgh.
