Dr. Steven Shapiro will be departing UPMC to become the senior vice president of health affairs at the University of Southern California, where he will assume the leadership of both the Keck School of Medicine and Keck Medicine of USC.
Dr. Shapiro has been a highly valued member of UPMC’s clinical and academic leadership and executive management teams, serving as UPMC’s chief medical and scientific officer and directing the Health Services Division. He has played a vital role in the growth and continual transformation of UPMC as a world-renowned integrated delivery and finance system.
“This new position is an opportunity for Dr. Shapiro to lead the clinical care at a highly regarded academic medical center and its affiliated community hospitals, as well as that institution’s medical school. It also reminds us that UPMC continues to develop a unique set of superbly talented individuals who are sought by many other excellent organizations,” said Jeffrey A.
