- Dr. Freddie Fu, professor and chairman of the department of orthopaedic surgery at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and UPMC, has received the 2018 Alumni Council Career Achievement Award from the Dartmouth Geisel School of Medicine Alumni Council.
- The award celebrates alumni who have made an outstanding impact on the medical or scientific field, demonstrating exceptional leadership and achievements that bring greater honor to the institution.
Fu said a highlight of the event was reuniting with professor James Strickler, former dean of the Dartmouth medical school, who attended the event.
“In 1975 he mentored me to go to Pittsburgh to work with professor Albert Ferguson (a Dartmouth alumnus and founder of Pitt’s orthopaedic surgery department),” Fu said. “Professor Strickler is 90 years old now. He is from Pittsburgh. His family worked in the steel mill where the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex stands today. I’m very grateful to have two great men directing my career path. Respect the past, to embrace the future.”
