Magee Babies Face-Off to Earn Draft Titles

By: Taylor Andres and Amy Charley

For the past three years, the Pittsburgh Penguins® have partnered with Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC to provide newborns with a special gift.

The “A Great Day for a New Baby” program, relaunching July 1, gifts every baby born at Magee a care package to welcome them into the world. This package consists of a Penguins onesie, a hooded towel and washcloth set and a chalkboard that can be used to highlight a baby’s monthly milestones.

To celebrate the relaunch of the popular program, former Penguins player and current assistant general manager Bill Guerin, long-time Penguins announcer Paul Steigerwald, and former player and current radio analyst Phil Bourque visited Magee’s nursery for a photoshoot.

The babies participated in a Penguins draft earning titles such as “Best Hockey Smile,” “Eat-Sleep-Cry Hat Trick Specialist” and “Hottest Hands.” The newborns wore crocheted, black and gold skates and helmets handmade by a Magee nurse to resemble the Penguins’ uniforms.
